I’m not a removal firm. That’s rather the point.
I’m Ian. I publish what spray foam removal really costs, and I put people in touch with firms I’ve checked. You pay me nothing.
You know the sharp intake of breath you get from a mechanic?
I’d been reading bits about spray foam for a while before I started this. The more I read, the more it felt like people were being left to find out the hard way. Most homeowners don’t know what removal should cost, that a report can sometimes do instead, or what a quote ought to include. There are holes everywhere, and people fall into them.
I’ll be straight with you: it hasn’t happened to me, or to anyone close to me. But I’ve seen it. A few years back I was renting in an old Victorian terrace in Chester. Helping my landlady up in her loft, I remember spray foam all along the rafters. She’d had a new roof put on, and the foam went in with it. I think damp was part of the reason, though I never found out for sure. It stuck with me.
When I looked into the trade properly, I got that mechanic feeling. The sharp intake of breath, then a number with nothing behind it. Quotes that differ by thousands with no breakdown. Firms that never mention the cheaper route. It isn’t open enough.
So I built what I’d want if it were my house: real prices, what quotes leave out, and a straight answer on whether the foam needs to come out at all. I sit in the middle. I don’t remove foam, and you pay me nothing.
I’ve spent two years on the other side of the phone
For the last two years I’ve run the marketing for a pest control firm. That means I’ve read what hundreds of paying customers typed into Google, at what hour, and which of them went on to book. I know what people are looking for when they’re worried about their home, and how often they’re given a price with no explanation.
I’m a DMI Certified Search Specialist. I’ve never removed any foam, and I won’t pretend otherwise. What I can do is find the numbers, check them, and put them in one place.
Four things this site will always do
Publish real prices
From published guides to start with, and from real quotes as they come in, with VAT made clear.
Tell you when you don’t need removal
Even though nobody earns anything from that answer.
Only pass on your details when you say so
Your details are never sold, and never go to a firm you didn’t agree to.
Only recommend firms I’ve checked
My first call is people I trust in the trade. I’ve got friends who are joiners and electricians around Whitchurch in Shropshire, and I ask them before anyone. Then I read a firm’s Google reviews properly, and check its insurance and the paperwork it gives lenders. If something doesn’t feel right, the firm isn’t on my list, whoever recommended it.
